Monique has always been a firm believer in the power of giving back to the community. Regardless of her daily time constraints, Monique makes it a priority to participate in ongoing volunteer opportunities and fundraisers to help others in need.
The desire to give back began in elementary school for Monique, where for two years, Monique volunteered her time and efforts to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis.
While attending the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Monique served as a tutor/mentor from 2002-2004 at Edison Middle School in Champaign, IL. Upon completion of her post-secondary education, Monique relocated to Washington, D.C., where she served as the head coordinator and sole liaison between the Edgewood/Brookland Family Support Collaborative (D.C. social service agency), Randstad US (leading employment services provider), and Discovery Communications (international headquarters for cable channel) to develop an Adopt-A-Child holiday gift giving program. The program ran for three winter holiday seasons (2005-2007) and served 300+ D.C. area youth in total. In 2008-2009, Monique she served as a mentor for high school students with Minds Matter Chicago from 2008-2009. In 2010, Monique began to volunteer as a 4th grade math/reading tutor every Saturday morning for two hours at the Potomac Landing Elementary School in Fort Washington, MD. Beginning in 2013, Monique has begun volunteering with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, her alma mater, to assist with minority student recruitment efforts within the Chicago area.
